Medavilakam- marthandam thurai

Medavilakam and Marthandamthurai are the main coastal areas of Kollemecode. Most of the hospitals available in kollemcode are located at these places. Reeta Nursing Home, Grace Hospital, Dr. Philix Clinic and Behin Memorial Dental Clinic are the popularly known clinics of these places. Besides these clinics, a Governement Primary Health Centre is also being constructed at Marthandamthurai. Majority of the people from Kollemcode rely on these clinics for immediate recovery of illness.

Like any other coastal places of south Kerala, these places are also possesses majority of Christianity. Apart from Christians, many Hindu and Islam religion followers are also reside at these places together with friendly and helping hands. Most of the people of these places come under Mukkuvar, Arayar, Thandar, Nayar and Viswakarma castes. St. Antony Church at Medavilakam, Aur Lady of Dolar Church at Marthandamthurai, Subramahniya Temple at Medavilakam and Muslim Mosque at Medavilakam are the important worship centers here.

Fishing is the main source of income; because of that, fishing related product manufacturing companies like fishnet and Ice factories are running here successfully. Over and above fishing, rope production is also being an important source of income for all the people here. A beautiful coconut estate is situated very near to the shore of AVM Canal where thousands of people involved in rope production for the well being of their life. A well known market is also present near to AVM Canal which is generally called as “Anthikada” and “Palakkada”. This market is a very helpful source of daily consumer products of majority of people from Kollemcode.

Sree Devi Primay - Girls Higher Secondary School, St. Alocius Higher Secondary School and John Bonnel Metriculation School at Marthandamthurai are the main Educational Institutes. Apart from these, some computer centers are also running here.

As part of Tsunami Relief Fund, so many houses were built near AVM Canal recently. The bridge built across the AVM canal connects Medavilakm and Marthandamthurai. Marthandam thurai is situated in between two important coastal areas ,Neerody and Vallavila . 

Politically, CPM, AIDMK, Congress and BJP are equally strong here. Each of 2 wards come under the constituency of Medavilakam is governed by CPM and BJP. The ward including Marthandamthurai is governed by AIDMK. Workers union of CPM & BJP and welfare association of Seva Bharati are efficiently working here for betterment of the society.
