Government Higher Secondary School, Kollemcode

Govt H.S.S,Kollemcode is situated, 1km away from kannanagam junction when we travel through Nidravila road from kannangam jn. and, in the middle of kollemcode venkanji Devi temple and Ilampalamuk Lord Shiva temple on the way. Even though so many schools have been established in kollemcode in past 5 to 10 years, this govt school is said to be one of the best among the other schools situated in kollemcode.

Being under the jurisdiction of Government also, this school performs the education like any other private schools do with the help of best teaching and non teaching staffs and provide sophisticated infrastructure for better education to the students. And the remarkable highlight of this school is that it was established quite long ago and, since then, the standard of education is improving year by year and still continues to give good results in state level examinations.

History :
Long years ago, this school was started as Kesava vilasam middle School. It was situated near to kannangam, and now Sree devi School is replaced it,and it was said to be an ‘English school’, because the number of schools available in kollemcode were very less on that days and also this was the only school having taught the pupil in English medium during those days.After 50 years,that School moved to Venkanji and it went to under  Government of Tamilnadu. Because of the hard work of some people like Sri.Krisha Pillai and Sri.Joswa etc. this school got a beautiful building with 20 class room. It's not good to forget Sri.Kesava Pillai, who has donated 3.5 acres of land   for the construction of the School. IN 1978 this school had upgraded to higher secondary level.

Thereafter, it changed as Govt H.S.S. Since it was established quite long ago, majority of the people from kollemcode got educated form this school and so many of them are working at higher position in different organization whether it is private or public sector and, further to that, so many people got self employed and lead a better life. What we see today is the hard work and the involvement of the teaching and non- teaching staffs who had been working here and then left the school and the people who are still continuing their service. Their contribution in bringing the school to this position is absolutely outstanding and unforgettable. And the contribution of kollemcode people is also significant. One of the remarkable functions of this school is the teacher-parents association which is working hand to hand for understanding parent’s requirements for the betterment of their children as well as to act as a cooperative educational institute.

This school is also best suited for sports activities and some of the students have been selected for district level and state level competitions. Malayalam, Tamil and English are the medium of instructions being used here that provide an option to financially unsound people to select suitable education for their children. Even in the examination result of SSLC & HSC also, this school has proven their standard and quality of the education by helping the student to reach on the top of the mark list in district level. Though there are nearly 15 schools running effectively, this school also has the student strength of 500 and more. Students from nearby villages and neighbour states are getting education from this school. Well educated and highly qualified teachers are working in this school for giving better education and guidance to the students who are aspiring to get higher education. Today, Government Higher Secondary School, kollemcode has grown up as on of the best among the schools in Tamil Nadu.
